Divorce

Penn Hills, Pennsylvania, Divorce Attorneys

Our western Pennsylvania lawyers represent men and women during the divorce process. Because most of our clients have children, we also represent them in matters related to child custody, support, and visitation. We know that divorce is one of the most stressful events that a person can experience. It is easier for people to focus on the legal and financial issues associated with divorce once they can get past the hurt and anger. We encourage our clients to get to a place where they can make good decisions about the future. Contact our Penn Hills law firm, Paladin Law Offices, PC, to learn how we can help you with your divorce.

What to Expect at a Preliminary Meeting with a Divorce Lawyer

At our first meeting, we explain the whole divorce process to the client, making sure he or she understands the timetable, his or her responsibilities, how he or she can help the case, and the possible costs. We urge the client to ask questions of us, and to address matters cooperatively with his or her spouse, coming to agreement whenever possible. This often results in a better outcome than if decisions are made by a judge. However, when there is too much anger or hurt, we work with the client to develop responsible proposals to resolve contested issues.

Some of the matters that must be resolved before a divorce can be finalized include:

  • Equitable division of marital property. We make sure that all marital property is accounted for, using forensic accountants when necessary to identify assets and income. We negotiate settlement agreements that work.
  • Child custody and support. Using the Pennsylvania child support calculator, we work to ensure that children can live at or close to the standard they enjoyed before the divorce. We develop child custody and visitation proposals that meet the client's needs and that are in the best interest of the children. When necessary, we help parents enforce support and custody orders.
  • Alimony / maintenance / spousal support. We represent the best interests of our client in matters related to spousal support. Whether the request is for temporary support, rehabilitative maintenance, or long-term alimony, we advise our clients on the best course of action for the situation.
